Dear Lawmakers —
As a Tennessee resident concerned with public safety and gun violence in our communities, I urge you to oppose any effort to put more guns in schools, including efforts to arm teachers or school staff.
After high profile shootings at schools in Santa Fe, Texas and Parkland Florida, it's critical that we find solutions to gun violence in Tennessee. But arming teachers and allowing more guns in schools will make students and teachers less safe. That's why teachers and school safety experts oppose arming teachers.
The country is watching how our state handles legislation to address gun violence and the legislature should be making schools safer with legislation to keep guns away from people with dangerous histories, not pushing bills to allow more loaded guns in classrooms that put our children and teachers in danger. Again, please oppose any effort to arm teachers and allow more guns in schools.
